2025.2.21-24 Noh Voice Workshop@Haute Ecole de Musique et Conservatoire de Lausanne
I came to Lausanne, Switzerland to perform in the opera “Nopera AOI” composed by Noriko Baba. Lake Geneva, about a 10-minute tram ride from the old town, was simply beautiful, like being in a postcard.
This season, Noriko Baba is the resident composer at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU), and this performance of “Nopera AOI” is part of her residency.
At the main entrance of the Conservatoire de Lausanne, I found a poster for Noriko Baba “Nopera AOI”!
It’s a very beautiful school with an Art Deco style. Before the opera, I gave a Noh voice workshop at Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU).
On the first and second days of the Noh voice workshop, the students from the vocal department performed Yasutaki Inamori “Maumonozukushi Ni-shu” accompanied by a cello student, Loïs Torina.
The students were also very nice and I enjoyed teaching. This was my first Noh vocal workshop, and it was a very educational experience for me. I am grateful for this valuable opportunity. It is the first step in inheriting my repertoire.
On the third and final day of the Noh voice workshop, composer Noriko Baba arrived from Paris and we gave a lecture on three pieces she had written for me.
I had lunch at a restaurant on campus with Guillaume Bourgogne, the conductor who invited me this time and professor at the conservatory. The atmosphere inside was like a brasserie, completely different from the Art Deco style outside.
The workshop has ended successfully and the rehearsal for “Nopera AOI” has begun. It is time to say goodbye to the wonderful view of Haute École de Musique de Lausanne.
