Juha T. Koskinen (born in 1972) has graduated in composition from Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki. He continued his studies at the Conservatory of Lyon and at IRCAM in Paris. His composition teachers have been Kaija Saariaho and Philippe Manoury. Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) has commissioned four works for orchestra from Koskinen, the most important ones are Hehkuva graniitti (Incandescent Granite) (2001) and Symphony No. 1 (2006). In 2004 his composition Sogni di Dante (Dante's Dreams) received the Takefu International Composition Award in Japan. Koskinen's fourth chamber opera Madame de Sade (after Yukio Mishima's play) was premiered in Helsinki in 2010. Bashô Fragments for bass clarinet, cello and electronics had its premiere at Tokyo Opera City on June 2010 with the musicians from the Ensemble Nomad.
Federico Gardella was born in Milan in 1979. He studied composition at the Conservatory of Milan with Alessandro Solbiati and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Azio Corghi.
He has received various awards at national and international composition competitions, including the Tansman International Competition of Musical Personalities in Lodz and in 2010 he was composer in residence at the Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte.
His works have been commissioned by Divertimento Ensemble, Fondazione Spinola Banna per l'Arte, Orchestra della Toscana, Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali, Résonance Contemporaine and Trieste Prima.
His music has been performed in many festivals and music seasons (Bologna: Accademia Filarmonica, Boston: Harvard University, Florence: Maggio Musicale Fiorentino/Teatro Goldoni, Lodz: Lodz Philharmonic Hall, Milan: Festival di Milano Musica, MITO SettembreMusica, Sala Verdi del Conservatorio, Rondò/Palazzina Liberty, Teatro Dal Verme, New York: Columbia University, Parma: Traiettorie/Casa della Musica, Riga: Festival Arena/Great Guild Concert Hall, Rome: Auditorium Parco della Musica, Royaumont: Voix Nouvelles, Siena: Accademia Musicale Chigiana/Palazzo Chigi Saracini, Tel Aviv: Hateiva Hall, Turin: MITO SettembreMusica, Unione Musicale/Teatro Vittoria).
His music has been performed in several radio broadcasts (Kol Hamusica, Radio Classica, Radio France, Radio Tre) and recorded (La Bottega Discantica).
His works are published by Edizioni Suvini Zerboni - SugarMusic S.p.A., Milan.
