Date : 10 December 2023 (Sunday) 17:00-
Venue : Goethe-Institut Tokyo Hall (7-5-56 Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo)
Talk and concert by two musicians living in Germany, Finnish composer Juha T. Koskinen, flutist Camilla Hoitenga, a legend who has opened up a new world of contemporary music, and Noh singer Ryoko Aoki, who has fused the Noh chant with contemporary music. Koskinen is a frequent visitor to Japan and in recent years has been appointed Visiting Professor of Composition at the Aichi University of the Arts. Japanese culture has been a major source of inspiration for Koskinen, who has also composed numerous pieces for Japanese instruments. Koskinen and Aoki have been working together since 2011 and are planning to compose a chamber opera “Nonomiya” for Aoki, based on the Noh play “Nonomiya”. This concert was the first step towards realising this, and included an artist talk.

Camilla is a legendary figure in contemporary music, known as an important collaborator of the legendary composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and Kaija Saariaho, who sadly passed away in June this year. I was very honoured to perform together.
Thank you very much!
