2020.12.7 Ryoko Aoki x Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra : YouTube Live “Pray for an end to the Covid-19”

On 7 December 2020, I and Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra members broadcasted YouTube Live “HO NOH – Pray for an end to the Covid-19” (Live-streaming distant session) especially for people who live in the Netherlands.

From May to July 2020, I have broadcasted “HO NOH – Pray for an end to the Covid-19”. Noh is a Japanese traditional theatre which originated in the 14th century. Noh performers historically performed for religious rituals; for example, to pray for recovery from illness. Now we are suffering from Covid-19 pandemic. I have collaborated with international composers to write new pieces for Noh voice. In this series, we play their pieces to pray for an end to the Covid-19 for the people in the place where composers and musicians live.

We played Noriko Baba “hagomoro suite” which we already played together at Concertgebouw in 2018. This time, I sang at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands in Japan with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra members at Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as live-streaming distant session.
